July 25, 2014  (Garden City)

Garden City, IA-On July 23rd, 2014 Innovative Ag Services had the pleasure of having a group of students from the University of Costa Rica study abroad, tour of Iowa agriculture program come to tour the facility and learn about the roles of cooperatives in Iowa Agriculture and how IAS provides value and service for farmers.

Tours of the facility were led by Mark Sparrow-Garden City Location Manager, Rich Groepper-Feed Manager, Stewart Hughes-Grain Originator, Levi Cook-Intern, and Kristen Pierson-Location Customer Service.

The tour began in the office area of the Garden City location. The students were given an overview of the IAS coop, IAS business units, and IAS’s geographical locations. The students learned what is required to be a member of the IAS coop and what the benefits are of being a member along with the services and products IAS provides to customers.

The students were then taken over to the elevator and given an overview of its capacity and capabilities for receiving and handling corn and beans. From there the students were led to the train load out. The students were informed of what was involved with Garden City’s train loading operations.

After touring the Garden City location the next stop on “Touring Iowa Agriculture” was a member of IAS, Paul Cook’s farm.  Levi Cook, who is Paul’s son is interning with IAS this summer. Levi went with the student’s to help with the tour of Paul Cook’s farm.

This tour was a great opportunity for IAS to support the community and to educate others on how our cooperative works.
