Elkader, IA – Steve Wagner, Livestock Production Specialist, and Doug Reimer, member of Land O’ Lakes Foundation, presented a donation of $1,500 from Innovative Ag Services; (IAS) that was matched with funds from Land O’ Lakes Foundation for a total of $3,000. This donation was given to the Garnavillo Emergency Services Fund to help with the construction of a new building for public safety services.
The total cost for this project is $750,000. The current building is a repurposed creamery that was remodeled into a fire station in 1969. This building has 4,276 square feet. Today, several rescue units are housed off site due to lack of space.
In 2013, 28 firefighters and 7 EMS personnel volunteered over 1700 hours of their time-responding to everything from fire calls, to HazMat calls, river rescue and recovery, traffic control and assisting neighboring companies.
Centrally located on the old Garnavillo Elementary grounds at 206 West Centre Street, the new 13,000 square feet facility will be an energy-efficient, code compliant facility with seven double-deep bays. This will give the loyal volunteers more room to store, maintain and service rescue equipment and maintain necessary training.

As part of the commitment to rural communities Land O’Lakes matches donations by member cooperatives where Land O’Lakes members, employees and facilities are located to help enhance the quality of life in local communities such as Garnavillo.
