August 2, 2013 (Monticello - Corporate Office)
The August Safety Topic is Fork Lift Safety. As you know, fork lifts are a part of our everyday jobs at Innovative Ag Services. They can also be very dangerous if our operators are not properly trained. In fact in fiscal year 2012, OSHA named the Powered Industrial Trucks (fork lifts) standard as the sixth most cited standard.
This month’s safety meeting topic at IAS will focus on this issue. Each location will discuss how to follow best practices for operating a forklift and also how to maintain situational awareness which can help prevent forklift-related incidences. At this time, all employees are also reviewed to ensure that their forklift certification is current as this expires every three years from the last date the employee was tested. If they are up for renewal, then they will be recertified using our in-house forklift safety trainers. All employees who operate fork lifts at IAS are trained and certified to do so.
If you have a forklift at your farm or other business, IAS encourages you to read the attached OSHA regulations at the top right as a reference for inspecting and maintaining forklift safety on your own property or business.
