You're Invited: Celebrate 50 Years of Agricultural Innovation at the Nashua Research Farm

For 50 years, the Northeast Iowa Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua has served as a cornerstone of agricultural research, education, and innovation for Iowa producers. On September 10, 2026, farmers, agribusiness professionals, researchers, and community members are invited to celebrate this important milestone and the impact the farm has had on agriculture throughout the region. The anniversary celebration will be held at the Borlaug Learning Center and will feature farm tours, educational programming, and special guest speakers.

Fifty years ago, a group of northeast Iowa counties came together with a shared vision of creating a location where independent agricultural research could be conducted under local growing conditions. Since then, the farm has become a trusted source of information for producers, evaluating topics such as soil management, tillage practices, seed performance, fertility programs, water quality, crop protection, and emerging agricultural technologies. Today, Iowa State University continues to manage the farm's day-to-day operations and research activities, ensuring the work conducted there remains practical and relevant to Iowa agriculture.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration will provide attendees with an opportunity to reflect on the farm's rich history while exploring the innovations that continue to shape the future of agriculture. Featured speakers are expected to include U.S. Department Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Steven Vaden, Iowa State University President David Cook, and Vice President for Extension and Outreach Jason Henderson, along with additional agricultural leaders and industry experts.

The Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm remains one of Iowa's premier locations for field-scale research and education. Each year, the farm hosts field days, demonstrations, research trials, and training programs that provide valuable insights for farmers and agribusinesses across the state. The knowledge gained through these efforts continues to help producers make informed decisions, improve productivity, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of their operations.
